Myths Uncovered About Multitasking People

Is it a myth? Or people really have the ability to multitask? Well, these are two reasonable questions since almost everyone is terrible at this “talent”. However, nowadays smartphones make it hard not to multitask; it is incredible when you see somebody performing simultaneous activities while they’re on their phones and you wonder how they can manage all those functions at once. But, to answer the first question, people actually are incapable to be true multitaskers, one of the reasons is because the human brain cannot perform two tasks that require high level brain function at once and although there are proven rumors that women can handle quickly more than one task at a time compared to men on daily basis, this turns uncertain when we get to know the scientific facts about this ability.

1. What Percentage is Actually Multitasking Effectively?

The technology provided in our hands; gadgets, smartphones, and apps help us get through several activities during the day. It is almost impossible for us not to use our smartphones nowadays, well, it is impossible! It seems as if a major power invited us to multitask with it. Although, there is research which says only 2% of humanity can multitask effectively. We are going to give you time to process this information.

Yes, just 2% of the 7 billion people on this world can actually handle more than one task successfully, while the other 98% are actually cutting down their own productivity.

2. What Nobody is Telling You About Multitasking

People who are multitasking feel like they’re accomplishing more, but definitely not. They’re actually slowing thingsshutterstock_89051131 down, and doing more harm than good to their brain. As we said, smartphones are encouraging you to multitasking, but you must know that focusing on more than one thing decreases your productivity by 40% and lowers your IQ by 10 points, according to Harvard Business Review. In fact, studies have shown that on average, employees who use a computer for work are distracted by their phone once every 10.5 minutes.  What you thought was a gift given at birth is actually giving you a brain disorder, and interrupting your workflow.

We may assume you weren’t aware of this; while you try to do the company’s monthly earnings report, plan your next presentation, develop new ideas, answer  incoming e-mails from your phone, look for new business opportunities on the market, and perhaps writing an article, all at once, will make you think you’re fulfilling responsibilities efficiently, but, all you are generating is a drop in your energy levels, a bad performance, and you will actually be losing time in the development of each task. Or, maybe you’re part of the 2% of truly multitaskers, who knows. What we know is that both types of people can be great and efficient on what they do best.
